Headstone Inscriptions

In 1958, Mrs. Ben Compton compiled a list of burials in the Stone’s Chapel cemetery.  The headstone inscriptions below were transcribed from a copy of her typewritten notes, in their original order.  For an alphabetical list, with birth and death dates, see the “Index of Burials” page under “Cemetery.”

In memory of Elizabeth S. Wood who departed this life on the 17th day of May 1831, aged 21 years and 7 days. This monument erected to her memory by his disconsolate husband who inscribes this testimony of her exemplification of Proverbs 31 Chap. 10, 11, 12 and 30 Verses.
